The Fair! The Fair! The Fair!

We made it to the fair today. I am so glad we waited. It was a perfect day, breezy, cool (only in the 70's!) and Johno got to come along too. It was the county fair, I don't think we'll go back to the state fair..
I would like to say it was Johno's idea or that we were fulfilling a curiosity of Odin's, but it was my suggestion that we go today for the demolition derby. I had never been, and I wanted to see it. It was not hard at all to convince the boys to go. It did take some explaining that:
A) the drivers did not get hurt (too badly)
B) It is only O.K. to crash cars in a demo derby
C) We do not drive in derby's for many reasons.

We also looked at tractors, pet sheep, watched some rabbit agility, rode the ferris wheel sampled fair food, and other things that are fun to do once a year.

Really I was there too, behind the camera.

Yesterday and today

I introduced Odin to a few dinosaurs yesterday. I pulled out a 4x5 camera and some Polaroid film(!). He seemed to have the most fun opening the viewing screen up, and pushing the cable release.
Out of 8 sheets of Polaroid film one was a keeper. The rest had dried up chemistry. I am just glad that one worked. I do not expect him to get how it worked in the age of image sensors and pixels, but he thought it was cool seeing the print come out.

Today was not at all the day I had planned. We were going go to the fair, but it was pouring, cats and dogs doesn't come close to describing it. Oh and there was lots of thunder and lightning too. I knew the forecast (40% chance of showers) so we brought umbrellas, thinking that a raincoat when it's 85 degrees would be unpleasant, at best. But an umbrella would not cut it in sideways rain and who wants to hold an umbrella in a thunderstorm for enjoyment/amusement? In the end we ran a few errands and went to the park. Not too bad in the end.
